How to Choose the Right Paint Color For Your Home

Choosing the perfect paint color for your home can feel overwhelming. Not only because of the cost, but the feeling of permanence. You don’t have to be an expert to choose a great color, but here are some tips to make the process easier!

Choose a shade

We know what you’re thinking, this is the hardest part! This can be true, and it’s exactly why we recommend you to start here. Choosing a shade will help you to know whether you want choose a color that is light, medium, or dark. It’s important to start with the shade because it will cut out a large amount of options narrowing your search. After choosing a shade you can then start to think about specific color options. For example, if you want a light color does this mean white for you? Maybe it means tan or beige. The possibilities are endless!

Roof Color

If you are painting the exterior of your house you want to keep in mind the color of the roof and how it will look next to the color you will choose for the body. The most common roof colors here in Phoenix are red, white, grey, tan and beige, however that can obviously vary from state to state. Once you know what color your roof is, you can start to imagine colors that will compliment it and vice versa.

Lighting

Have you ever gotten a paint sample, painted a square in your living room, and fell in love with it? You now decide to do the whole house in this color and realize you actually hate it, or its darker than you thought it was going to be? Well, let’s just say you are not alone. Lighting plays a huge role in how the color of the paint will look throughout the house. For example, If your house or room faces North it will be exposed to soft light. Soft light causes a warm effect, this means the paint will look darker. The same idea goes for a room facing South, but instead of colors looking darker, they will look lighter. When facing East and West, you will get a mix of both! When it comes to artificial lighting, you will want to play around with the color and see what works. There are bulbs on the market for cool tones, warm tones, and everything in between. You want to make sure you test your color in multiple areas of your house, regardless of the paint is for the exterior or interior.
